Where else would the Lockhorns be on Tax Day then at their local IRS branch office raining misery and sorrow on their unfortunate case officer? Loretta sharply turns the case officer's simple inquiry into Leroy's income into another opportunity to belittle Leroy's low earnings in front of an audience. As humiliating as it may be for Leroy, this may actually benefit the household in the long run since it does make a compelling argument: someone who has bought no new clothes in over 40 years would likely have no income let alone extra hidden income. Loretta earns the point.

Looks like the Lockhorns are carefully sowing the seeds for another year of robust, heated disputes with the agents of their local IRS branch. I for one am already gearing up for what I expect to be some epic showdowns between the Lockhorns and the federal government. Just how many audits will the Lockhorns experience? Will this finally be the year when the IRS sends Leroy to prison for decades of improper tax reporting? What sort of wacky responses does Leroy have in store for the unfortunate IRS agent handling his case? Let the games begin! Push.

Is it me or does it seem like the Lockhorns' assigned IRS agent is getting increasingly derisive with every visit? Years upon years of persistently fraudulent paperwork and inaccurate returns would wear down even the most seasoned and professional of IRS agents. At this point it's a game of chicken between the IRS agent and Leroy. Now it's a question of how many income tax shenanigans can Leroy pull and the agent will tolerate before he is eventually sent to prison. The endless struggle continues and, like Alien vs. Predator, whoever wins we lose. Push.

The seemingly never ending war of attrition between Leroy and the IRS continues unabated. Exactly how many audits can one man be given within a fiscal year? Does Leroy even bother looking at the forms or actually putting in real numbers when he files his taxes? Why doesn't he just quit paying taxes altogether? It'll be a quicker path to what seems to be his ultimate goal of being locked in a federal prison, away from Loretta. Obviously the spiteful IRS agent realizes that denying Leroy prison and making him go home with Loretta every night is confinement and punishment enough. Push again.

For a household that is always teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, the Lockhorns sure have a lot of tax problems. It all really seems to stem from Leroy's unabashedly contemptuous attitude towards the IRS. The possibly of sanctions, fines, or even prison time doesn't seem to phase him at all as he shamelessly admits during every one of his frequent visits to the IRS office that he just doesn't give a flip about the tax code. When you think about his life though, his "nothing to lose" attitude is not surprising. He has no money or assets of value for the IRS to repossess and a prison sentence would be three square edible meals without Loretta. Not a bad situation. Push.

With today being Tax Day in the United States, this is a surprisingly rare display of the Lockhorns actually being current and topical. Of course, since the Lockhorns view their marriage with the same universal dislike and uniform unpleasantness that most people view taxes, it's not all that shocking that the Lockhorns would acknowledge today. While it looks like Leroy may be in serious trouble with the IRS over his Wesley Snipes-esque brazen disregard for his tax obligations, it's likely that the IRS will go easy on him considering how little taxable income he makes any way. This is actually a defeat for Leroy, who obviously cheated openly on his taxes in an attempt to get sent to prison and away from Loretta. Perhaps next year. It's a push.
