May 5, 2013: Sunday Showdown!

Clockwise from the bottom left:
  • Leroy thought he could just saunter right into the kitchen and knock out an easy point with an insult at the expense of Loretta's mother. Unfortunately, Loretta was waiting to drop a devastating reversal. It took me an extra moment but I got the second meaning of Loretta's "lower opinion" comment, it's a bit more clever than her usual one liners; a great way to kick off the Sunday Showdown. Loretta has certainly brought her A game today, hopefully Leroy can match her effort. Loretta takes the first point and leads 1-0.
  • After decades upon decades of receiving verbal abuse by Loretta due to his sloppy home appearance, one would think Leroy would try to at least put on a pair of paints for crying out loud. He just makes it so easy for Loretta to unload on him. It's amazing how one man can be so prone to entropy. At the drop of a hat he develops the kind of slovenly presence that would take a vagrant on skid row months to cultivate. Loretta scores another point and surges ahead 2-0.
  • A quick view of the panel would appear to show a familiar scene of Leroy mocking Loretta's food, but upon closer reading it doesn't quite turn out that way. This is actually more an indictment of Leroy than Loretta. Surprisingly Loretta comes off as the one with the better sense of food. Leroy is the one who seems more likely to eat rotten food. This is a blown opportunity for Leroy to get back into the series. He's lucky Loretta didn't respond to his statement, it probably would have led to her getting another point. It's a push. Loretta leads 2-0.
  • Prime balcony seats at the opera means Leroy is bored and unhappy. Ever the ultimate philistine, Leroy opts to watch terrible TV programming over whatever cultural benefits may come from the theater experience. Loretta must know that she's opening herself up to a zinger by Leroy by bringing Leroy along. Perhaps Loretta's love of the stage is so great that she is willing to sacrifice a panel so she can attend. Then again, she's usually ahead most of the time so it's not as heavy a burden. Leroy wins a point and trails Loretta 2-1.
  • I cannot remember the last time I saw a panel where other people were mocking the Lockhorns. These sorts of scenes are quite uncommon. They give us a rare glimpse into the perspectives of the people being exposed to the Lockhorns' misery. Maybe one day we'll finally get a scene that explains why the Lockhorns are still constantly invited to parties despite nobody liking them. As much as I'd like to give the lady here a point for her jab at the Lockhorns, this has to be ruled a push. Loretta manages to hold on 2-1 to take the day.
