Clockwise from the bottom left:
- Leave it to the Lockhorns to lead off the Showdown with a scene involving video rentals. Perhaps they will follow it up with an argument at the local telegraph office. In addition to finding an actual brick and mortar video store (an increasingly rare sight in this Netflix era), judging by the size and shape of the boxes, the Lockhorns have managed to find one that exclusively carries VHS rentals; impressive. As for the scene itself, Loretta gets the point for cruelly mocking Leroy's valiant attempt at overcoming his narcolepsy and finishing the movie he rented previously. Loretta leads 1-0.
- I'm slightly confused at what Leroy is doing with his junk emails. We can all agree that the disagreement is based around Leroy not deleting his junk emails, but what he is doing with it seems a bit ambiguous. I think he's actually printing out his junk emails so he can have the physical sensation of crumpling them up like paper junk mail. This is, of course, completely insane and worthy of ridicule, but since it appears to be part motivated by the fact it's totally annoying Loretta I'm inclined to give Leroy the point here. The showdown is tied 1-1.
- Loretta can be such an unrelenting art snob at times. She has no tolerance for Leroy's love of kitch art and never misses an opportunity to chastise him when they are looking at works of art. Perhaps Leroy just isn't into De Stijl as much as you Loretta, have you considered that? Also in his defense that particular piece does look like a poster board full of colored post-its. As mean and unwarranted as her dismissal of Leroy may be, a point is still a point. Loretta goes up 2-1.
- Today we get an extremely rare, candid, behind the scenes look, at counselor Pullman's thoughts after a session with the Lockhorns. Since we almost exclusively see him in session looking muted and depressed while the Lockhorns continue to bicker or just repeating a hurtful insult one Lockhorn said to another, it's quite fascinating to see this new perspective. To his credit, the counselor does seem to be giving some sort of good faith effort in improving the Lockhorns' relationship. Who knew? Push.
- Young children are a pretty rare sight in the world of the Lockhorns, since most of the scenes involve just the childless couple or are in adult cocktail parties/functions. Here one of the Lockhorns' younger friends makes the unforgivably negligent mistake of exposing their child to the horrors of the Lockhorns, unwittingly turning him into an accessory to Leroy's crack about Loretta's cooking. If child services ever found out the couple's son was being exposed to this much toxic negativity, he would be taken away in an instant. Leroy gets in the last panel point to tie the score and end the day on a 2-2 push.
Official Count:
Leroy - 62
Loretta - 57
Loretta - 57
Push - 44
